3-D Pop Up Card

I made this 3-D pop up card for a baby shower last week. This was the first one I have ever made, and it was a lot of fun. I learned alot about how it works, and what NOT to do! I made a mistake with my grass placement, and it ended up stopping the card from folding down. I didn’t have time to fix my mistake, so I ended up just leaving the card in 3-D form, and putting it on the blanket that way. It looked cute, but it lacked the same WOW factor, as if it had been able to pop open.
I will definitely be doing this in the near future, and will post a tutorial on how to make these cute cards!!
Sorry again for the pictures being blurry - we still haven't been able to figure out what's wrong with our camera!

Matchbox Dies

These are some boxes I made using the Matchbox Die. Very simple and quick to do. They are literally, the size of a small box of matches. Perfect for fitting a little treat inside!

The first 3 examples use the Walk in the Park Designer Series Paper from the Occasions Mini Catalog and the coordinating rub-ons (both are now discontinued). The color scheme is: Basic Grey, Cameo Coral, Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss, So Saffron.

This last matchbox uses the new In Colors Melon Mambo, Soft Suede, Crushed Curry and Rich Razzleberry Ink. The stamp set is Sweet Stems.

Page Corner Bookmarks

These are some really simple bookmarks to try:

Cut a 4" or 5" square. I used a 5" square for mine. Score horizontally and vertically. Cut one of your quarters out, so you are left with only 3 squares. I suggest cutting outside of your score lines - the square you cut out should end up a little larger than the other 3 squares. This takes out some of the bulk, and helps with the folding process. Fold the two end squares over each other and adhere together, creating a pocket. You can now decorate the top of your bookmark as you'd like!

Fun with Old and New

There's been some card layouts from some of my demonstrator magazines that I've been dying to make lately. It's been hard for me to let go of the old In Colors, and I've been wanting to try the new In Colors too. So that's what these card samples are from - the old and the new!

Stamp Set: Branch Out, Hugs and Wishes (retired)

Colors: Basic Black, Kraft, Whisper White, Pacific Point, Baja Breeze and Kiwi Kiss

**This card used the Top Note Die used with the Big Shot.

Stamp Sets: Garden Whimsey, Teeny Tiny Wishes (new)

Colors: Rich Razzleberry, Chocolate Chip, Garden Green, Really Rust, Rose Red, Bermuda Bay

**You can see a score line to the right of the bow: Score the middle of your cardstock, then make another score in the opposite direction, 1" to the right. Decorate the card front as you wish. Between your two score lines, adhere the cardstock together, punch two holes and tie your ribbon in a bow. Then you can fold the front of the card open at the second score line you made at the beginning! It gives a very classical, book-style look and feel to your card.

Stamp Sets: Inspired by Nature, Teeny Tiny Wishes (new)

Colors: Kiwi Kiss, Baja Breeze, Basic Black, Whisper White

**I embossed the grass image on Whisper White Cardstock, then used a sponge to color over the image. Simply wipe image off, and stamp greeting! Greetings are also embossed, but in black.

Three Trees

I absolutely LOVE this card!! The layout is from a Stampin' Success magazine, I just switched up a few things to make it my own. It has a fresh springtime look that uses:

Certainly Celery

Garden Green

Apricot Appeal

Regal Rose

I don't have a green ribbon that coordinates with the colors I used, so I opted to use Old Olive 1/4" grosgrain instead. To attach the ribbon, tie a knot, THEN attach it using glue dots - it's a lot easier than trying to tie the ribbon around such a small piece of cardstock!

If you don't have any patterned paper, but want to add more visual interest without stamping, you can do what I did with the Certainly Celery rectangle. Use your paper scorer to score at different increments across your paper (I did mine at 1/2"). Flip your paper 90 degrees, and do the same thing. It didn't come thru the scan very well, but it's perfect for adding additional interest to the card without it being too busy.

Trendy Trees!

I've been playing around with my new stamp set Trendy Trees, and it's LOTS of fun! I especially like using it with the the color scheme from the catalog:

The tree image is attached with Stampin' Dimensionals to the left flap of the card. The right flap measures 1". By changing the dimensions of the flaps, and the stamps used, you can really change the look of the card!

This is a 6"x3" card, that opens like a typical card (or book).

Big Shot!

Here's a birthday card I made for my mom using the Big Shot Die-Cut Machine. VERY FUN!! It's really easy to use too - nothing complicated about it.

The bird and branch are die cuts from the Birds and Blooms Die, and the Certainly Celery base is embossed using one of the Embosslits Dies. I then sanded the background to help it stand out more.

A Quick Note, and A Little Surprise

I haven't forgotten what I said in my email a couple Saturdays ago. I've had good intentions of getting on to finish the last color challenge that I posted.
However, instead of getting better (from sickness) like my family was doing, I continued to get worse. Just as I was diagnosed with a sinus infection, I was also 'diagnosed' with another pregnancy! So THAT'S why I couldn't fight off the sinus infection with even an ounce of strength! After getting some much needed rest this last weekend (and medication!), and finally feeling like I was getting into the groove of things again, my daughter came down with the stomach flu yesterday. I have never seen a child that young, be so sick - it was heartwrenching!
My husband took her into the ER last night, and she's doing much better today; sleeping lots!

Long story short, it may still be a couple more days until I can post the pictures from the last color challenge. My husband re-installed windows on our computer, and I need to find where he moved all of my card pictures to first! So I have not forgotten, I've just been VERY preoccupied the last couple of weeks! Thanks for being patient!

Color Challenge by Mistake

As I was working on my cards for the last color challenge, I happened to notice some ink pads and scraps of paper sitting next to each other and thought, 'Hey, those would look really good on a card!'

I was noticing a really cute shirt he had on the other day, and I thought the colors would be perfect for a color challenge. It's been quite some time since I've done any sort of challenge, so what better time to start than now!

I recently sat down to mess around and make some mini christmas cards. I divided an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper into thirds along the long side. The measurements will be 3 11/16", 3 11/16" and 3 9/16". I used the Season of Simple Grace and Scandinavian Season stamp sets.
Some of the cards didn't scan too well - sorry!

This is a chart I made a couple weeks back, that I'm finally posting. It didn't scan as well as I had hoped - our scanner is really sensitive (even with the setting turned down) to lots of color...too much and it scans them really bright.

Hopefully this will give you "some kind" of idea of what the new colors look like compared to others, if you haven't seen them in person yet! And like I said last time, the more I use them, the more I like them!

I have to admit; it's been really hard for me to post as often as I would like to. It seems that I never have the time. I have good intentions, and will think about it daily for a couple weeks, but I can never seem to find a good time without one of the kids needing me for something. Even as I type this now, Gage is struggling to fall asleep!

To be honest, I didn't know if anything could top last year's In Colors. However, the more I see these new colors, and now that I've used them, I really like them!

Stampin' Up! has an Artisan Award contest that I entered for the first time this year. Unfortunately, I had some bad luck, and one of my scrapbook pages didn't make it into the box with everything else. I didn't realize it until it was too late.

The winners were just announced, and no surprise, I didn't win. But here's a couple of the cards that I sent in, for inspiration.

Pretty Amazing

Here are three cards I made from one piece of 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock (I also did this with the Wildlife Reserve cards below). I made these from a challenge on Splitcoast Stampers: Divide cardstock into three equal pieces. Use only one embellishment on each card, and only one tool per card. Tools were defined as items such as punches, crayons, pencils, paper piercer, blender pens, etc. (Stampin' Dimensionals, scissors, eyelet setter and the like are not considered tools since they are used on almost every card.)

I challenge everyone to try this out, and email me a picture of your creations - I may post them in the near future!

Here are the three cards that I made:

Colors - Perfect Plum, Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue and Not Quite Navy (Chocolate Chip was used as a neutral on one)

Wildlife Reserve

These two cards use the stamp set Wildlife Reserve; normally I like the really girly stamp sets with flowers and hearts and whatnot - but once I started using the set, I got hooked on it! It's the perfect set to make masculine cards with.

Masculine cards can be tough to make for those like myself that love embellishments. For those like me, I have these suggestions:

1. Keep things simple - only one or two stamped images/phrases.
2. Use minimal embellishments. Metals will always work well.
3. Browns and dark colors are the best to use when first starting out. Once you get comfortable, you can start branching out and try using color schemes that incorporate other colors that aren't typically associated with men.

Dahlia Fold

Binder Clips

I made these as my hostess gift for this month's club meeting. Very easy! I stamped on a piece of white cardstock 1" x 1 7/8" (approx.), colored in my images, then adhered them to clips using SU!'s basic SNAIL adhesive. Add a little ribbon for flare, and voila! - instant picture/memo holder! You can also find giant versions of these binder clips, for even larger holders (this is holding a wallet size photo with cardstock on the back for better "gripping").

I used the Embrace Life Stamp Set, with the colors Wild Wasabi, Regal Rose, and Apricot Appeal. The ribbons are Wild Wasabi double-stitched grosgrain, and Apricot 1/4" grosgrain.

A Change to My Websites

It's pretty obvious by looking at how little I post, but I don't have enough time to keep updating two websites. So I called Demo Support on Friday and cancelled my Demonstrator Business Website. I will be keeping this blog though.

With the baby coming any day now, and our plans to sell our house, I can't imagine my time being any more free than what it has been lately. I will try to update my blog a couple times a month though, with new project samples, and technique instructions.

If you check my blog and see I haven't posted something in a while, PLEASE - let me know. It's easy for time to slip by, and for me not to realize how long it's been since my last update. Also, if there's something specific you'd like to see more/new examples of (providing I have the stamp set/tools for the technique/etc.) let me know, and I'd love to step up to the challenge!

More Samples

After figuring out why our printer wasn't "talking" with our computers for a few weeks, I was finally able to scan all of my recently made cards the other night.

Here's two of the several cards that I used for additional samples at the Monthly Club Kick-Off:

This card is actually only 3x3". The wings of the butterfly aren't adhered to the paper, so in "real life", the wings pop off the paper. This is a very easy way to add dimension to your projects.

I saw this layout in a Stampin' Up! magazine last year, and finally decided to CASE (Copy-And-Share-Everything) it. I simply swapped out some of the images, and changed up the colors, and stapled ribbon at the bottom. Easy, easy!- just lots of cutting...

3-D Projects

Creating 3-D projects isn't as hard as it sounds. You've just got to the find right inspiration, then treat it as if it was a typical card/scrapbook page. You want to have a main focal point, and surrounding accent elements.

Here's a couple items that I've made recently:

A picture frame I made as a baby shower gift - I just might make another for our baby!

Another frame; this one was a present to my mom for Christmas.

Coloring Flowers

If you haven't seen the Pretties Kit yet, you're missing out! With pearls, rhinestone brads, hat pins, clear beads, and silk flowers, this kit has everything you need to add that extra touch to your projects.

The kit can be seen on page 188 of the new Spring/Summer Collection 2008. You can view the catalog here, if you do not already have one.

One of the many things you can do with flowers, is color them. You can color them with Stampin' Write Markers or the Stampin' Pastels (chalk). The Pastels will give a much softer color to the flowers, while the markers will be quite bold:

The markers will bleed thru the flower, so you want to make sure you have scrap paper under it. I used outward strokes, from the center to the edges until the entire flower is colored.

Color the flowers using Pastels, in the same manner, using the applicators that come with the chalks when you first purchase them. Here, I colored over my Pumpkin Pie flower, with Ruby Red chalk, adding a very realistic touch the silk flower!

After coloring your flowers, allow a couple minutes to dry, while finishing the rest of your card. I apologize for the poor quality picture; our printer finally broke down, and our old camera was starting to die too, when I took all these pictures!

This is the best close up of the scallop punch/flowers that I could get. Unfortunately, it doesn't show the flower with the chalk ontop of the marker very well. You'll just have to take my word that the technique works really good!

It's been awhile since I've posted anything, and for good reason; just after my last post, we found out that I'm pregnant again! I haven't stamped anything in the last month, but I'm feeling better now, so I'll be coming out with some new cards, challenges and techniques!

These 2 scrapbook pages use the same element found on the card above. These examples were featured in the Stampin' Up! demonstrator magazine; I copied their ideas making just a couple changes of my own.

These are great examples of how you can take an element from a page or card you like and swap it to the project you're working on!

Color Challenge #1

This is my first color challenge; I hope no one is too shy to participate. These are designed to get your creativity going by giving you a "boost" and to give you a fresh perspective on colors from another creative stamper's mind.

Make a card using the following colors, plus 1 neutral (whisper white, very vanilla, etc):

~Old Olive
~Pumpkin Pie
~Bashful Blue

For those who have the new In Colors, you can try this combination as well:

~Certainly Celery
~Soft Sky
~Purely Pomegranate

In The Spotlight

This is the third card I've made using this hostess set. The other two aren't finished yet, but I will revise this post once I finish adding my embellishments to them and get them uploaded.

Despite this being a very versatile stamp set, I'm having trouble coming up with good ideas for it. So we'll see how I do later on tonight!!

I can't believe it's been a month already! I have a pile of cards waiting to be scanned and posted, as soon as our printer decides to cooperate!

I'm also expecting a couple orders of new product to be coming very soon. I'm so excited to sit down and just STAMP STAMP STAMP. I have so many ideas rolling around in my head, I won't be able to keep them straight for long!!

I'll probably be putting up a color challenge...as soon as I make it down to the basement today to start working. Only what colors to choose....???

Faux Stitching Technique Class

These cards were made using either:

1.) Piercing Tool and Black Stampin' Write Marker

2.) Perforation Tool from Cutter Kit and Whisper White Craft Ink

The traditional way, uses a White Signo Gel Pen (which I don't have) instead of the black marker. Both are a bolder look than using the perforating tool and craft ink.

Wow - I'm very excited to start my own stamping blog. This will allow me to post more pictures for you to see (larger ones too!) and gives me more freedom on the content of my website!

Look for challenges every so often; concerning stamping or even just everyday life (you remember those shoes you've been meaning to go thru??). I'll post updates on events, as needed, and MOST importantly, I'll be sharing more pictures with you.
